Safety
Is practical pistol competition activity SAFE? Yes. There is an extreme emphasis on safety. You should watch the juniors shoot, they are awesome and safe. Every course of fire has a Range Officer and Assistant Range Officer that follows you through the course of fire. They are one step behind to help you and the spectators stay safe.
Back to Competition:
My competition shooting experience is approaching 6 years and I am currently rated by the USPSA as Master in the OPEN division. I shoot at the Rio Salado Sportsman's Club in east Mesa. There are many competitive shooters who move here just to shoot at this club. This club is by many opinions the best shooting experience in the USA. We shoot 4 paper and 4 steel practical matches each month. Here is the calendar http://riosaladosportsmans.com/calendar/month.php
Be forewarned, this sport is highly addictive and is relatively gender neutral so all women are invited to play also. The women who shoots are our club are very good. Eva has won high overall more than once.

Eva Beechroft running and gunning. Eva shoots in the OPEN class.

Rika shoots PRODUCTION class fast.
Tuesday Night Steel
We shoot Tuesday Night Steel tuesday afternoon. What's this? Imagine 150+ shooters on Tuesday's between 3pm and 7pm. There are 4 stages of practical steel. Each stage varies between 12 to 18 rounds or so. All steel all the time. How do you spell fast. Fastest game in town. We have covered bleachers and the water cooler is always filled. Free new shooter classes on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM. The last record was around 184 or so shooters for a WEEKLY steel match. This is a match where you will marvel at the fast transitions bested only by faster splits. You will be inspired to improve your shooting game.
If you like to shoot or are curious, come out and check out one of our matches. Check the club calendar. See the variety of shooters from all walks or life and all age groups. People are very friendly and supportive.
